the introduction to my art journal for design... yes i was bored:
The point of a cover page is to provide a first impression, or even an introduction, to a book or some document, so that people can know what to expect later on. Hence, this cover page is blank, because really, they can expect anything, everything, or nothing. This is a book of explorations and ideas, and things that come along the way. I have no idea what's going to appear here, so the best thing to expect is to not expect anything at all.
not expecting anything =/ = expecting nothing
expecting anything = expecting everything?
expecting anything = expecting everything?
Maybe it's not right to ask you to not expect anything. After all, none of us can help having at least some form of expectations to everything we see or do or know about. Some of these expectations are met and some of them are not, and when they are not met, undesirable consequences tend to happen.
an undesirable consequence:
failing an art module because your art journal did not meet expectations
failing an art module because your art journal did not meet expectations
These undesirable consequences are undesirable, and are avoided if possible. They also usually have a root cause. To prevent the effect from happening, it is best to prevent the cause from happening. And since the cause here is having expectations going unmet, and expectations must always be made, I offer one simple solution.
a simple solution:
do not expect your expectations to be met
do not expect your expectations to be met
