hols

a very productive holiday so far.

i've been reading a lot.

The Giver - Lois Lowry
Twilight - Stephenie Meyer
Night Watch - Sergei Lukyanenko (translated by Andrew Bromfield)
Day Watch - Sergei Lukyanenko (translated by Andrew Bromfield)

and then i'm going to read Twilight Watch which is the next in the series. yay.

these books are all very very well written, in my opinion. i find the night watch strangely similar to the stuff jun yup writes - i think he'd really like the books. i want to bring the night watch back and lend it to him. and i'm going to bring the book thief back as i said i would so long ago, and lend it to whoever wants to read it. whee...

the giver is a book i wanted to read for a very long time, but for some reason only ever got to start the first chapter. the rest of the book has proved to be as good as i hoped. it's really... interesting. highly recommended.

twilight is your classic vampire-human love story. not exactly my type of book, but it's a good book nonetheless. strangely enough i find it... too light. like not dark/serious enough. which i find disturbing. as in the notion of a book not being dark enough disturbing. must be the hols. strange thoughts coming to my mind.

my sister is crazy about twilight. she's the one who told me to read it. the night watch was recommended to me by my dad. he read the chinese version first. it's translated from russian.

whee...

so far i've also watched a lot of tv. yay XD and various movies.

Indiana Jones
Penelope
Prince Caspian
Chicken Little
National Treasure 2

the first three were watched in theatres. cause my mum was like what do you want to do? and i said i dunno. and she said movie? and i said yay ok. and so we went and watched the first two exactly a week apart. actually the first was with my dad on my birthday. the second was with my mum. and the third was with my sisters. XD.

chicken little was on tv - disney channel. funnily enough i've never watched it until now.

national treasure was on DVD.

i have never watched previous indiana jones movies so i'm not sure how this one compared with the rest of them, but i found it quite alright. very fun and lots of action. quite enjoyable.

penelope was a surprise. i didn't know much about the movie beforehand. i like the sort of fairytale-ish world created in the movie - the vibrant colours and the funny architecture. reminds me of a lighter version of the a series of unfortunate events world. sorta. near the end of the movie they started playing hoppipola by sigur ros XD i was so (pleasantly) surprised. it was quite fitting though. whee. it's a very sweet movie. the plot is rather predictable (as all fairytales are) but it's nice anyway. yeah. a happy movie.

prince caspian was pretty good. i think i like this narnia movie better than the previous one. funnily enough i realise i've forgotten everything in the books, but i'm pretty sure that the arch that they walked through in the end wasn't a tree but a wooden doorframe of some sort. and that caspian certainly didn't fall in love with susan XD but that's kinda spoilery. sorry. well it was nice, yeah, however different from the book it was. whee...

i find national treasure really interesting. very fun, and the treasure hunting itself is so very surprising and unpredictable. of course i'm pretty sure that some of the things would never happen (such as hurm... kidnapping the president?) but it adds to the adventure as a whole, so oh well. nice movie. haha.

whee...

i've been baking stuff with my sister. chocolate chip and oats cookies and apple pie. and a strange crunchie snack that simply involves melting chocolate on a variety of things such as corn flakes, oats, raisins... yeah. tasty. XD

oh and i bought a mood ring! XD of course it's just a plastic band containing a thermoreactive substance that reacts to different degrees according to your body temperature, but they're pretty. very much so. i like the aqua colour just before it turns dark blue, which is the colour it turns when you're hottest. the coldest is like a deep violet, then a pink, then yellow (no idea why), then green, then aqua, then dark blue. i like taking it off and holding it in front of air con so that i can see the colours change, and then putting it back on and watching it change back XD. haha. they're very fun.

i realise i'm going to bring back a very strange collection of items, including a guitar, a cloth sling bag, the mood ring, two books, a few hair accessories (my old hair ties broke - and i got a hairband) and the stuff i brought over in the first place like this laptop.

drama camp got cancelled =( due to lack of response. people are probably all on holiday and forgot to check their email...

i want to camp over somewhere anyway. hostel = boring during the hols.

hurm...

and oh wow they're already half over. sigh.

going to play risk now haha.

(for some reason i have new songs to pass to my sisters every time i come back here, even though i don't really go seeking them out on purpose. which is interesting.)

(oh yeah i forgot to say this. i found out yesterday that my dad proposed to my mum with a soda can ring. i find this really really cool. and she still keeps it in her jewelry box.)
